What is Erectile Dysfunction

Erectile Dysfunction (often called male impotence or ED) is the inability to have or maintain firm erection during a sexual intercourse. ED can have either psychological or physiological reasons. The most common physiological causes of male impotence are neurological problems, diabetes and hormonal misbalance. ED can also be a side-effect of medical treatment or have a post-traumatic nature.

Psychological impotence is the inability to maintain erection due to one’s emotions and thoughts, rather than problems with health. Such a type of ED usually develops because of negative emotions or events and is not permanent.

Patients with psychological erectile dysfunction can have normal sexual intercourse under certain conditions and fail to develop erection in others.

Psychological impotence needs psychological treatment and an individual approach to every patient. Some men are unwilling to admit that their problems are caused by psychological problems and refuse to visit a psychologist. In such cases placebo treatment gives a strong positive effect.

Nowadays it’s reported that only 20% of men have psychological reasons of ED. Sometimes erectile dysfunction can have a complex nature and be caused by both psychological and physiological factors.

How to Cure Erectile Dysfunction – Viagra, Cialis, Levitra

There are quite a lot of products to cure erectile dysfunction on the market today, but not of all of them are approved by Food and Drug Administration. In this article, we are going to consider the three drugs of the officially allowed ones: Cialis, Levitra and Viagra. The main principle of their action is the same: they increase the blood supply to the penis, so that a sexually stimulated man is able to get erection.

While the mechanism of the drugs is similar, there are some slight differences in the duration and quickness of the drugs action. The quickest one is Cialis – the effect takes place in about 15 minutes and lasts for almost 36 hours. Of course, this figure is different in each particular case, but, in general, it is larger than the 5 hours of Levitra and 4 hours of Viagra. Both Levitra and Viagra begin to work in approximately half an hour after they have been taken.

As for the specific characteristics of these oral drugs, it is as follows:

- Side effect of Cialis is the decrease of the blood flow to the eye optic nerve, which can cause an unexpected loss of vision. It is rather a rare effect, but you should know this, especially if you have problems with blood pressure, suffer from diabetes, have high
cholesterol level, are a regular smoker or over 50 years old.

- Doctors do not recommend taking Viagra more often than once a day. The minimal time between doses should be about 24 hours. Otherwise, you can have an erection for even more than 4 hours. In case the erection is painful or lasts longer than 4 hours, consult a
doctor without any delays.

- Levitra should be taken no more than 60 minutes before your sexual activity; in this case, it is better to plan, when you have an act. To achieve the erection, sexual stimulation is also needed, without it the pill does not work. You must be careful with eating grapefruits or drinking grapefruit juice taking Levitra pills, because they can interact.

Note: before you start taking any of these drugs, you should consult your doctor, since many factors and peculiarities of your body must be taken into account when choosing a medicine.
